We are a local grass roots movement focused on protecting the environment and people.

Tri-Cities C.A.R.E.S. | Community Action for Responsible Environmental Stewardship.

Tri-Cities is under assault right now. A huge wind energy project has been proposed along the ridge lines of the Horse Heaven Hills south of the Tri-Cities.

TCC registered as a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit with the specific mission to do everything reasonably possible to object to the project and support local conservation of wildlife, their ecosystems, and local decision-making. Our goal is to protect the critical wildlife habitats and cultural resources, reduce the intrusive visual impacts of turbines on people who live in the adjacent residential neighborhoods, and preserve the natural landscapes that make our communities unique, healthy, and beautiful.

The Horse Heaven Wind and Solar Project will produce significant negative impacts on the vanishing and endangered shrub-steppe habitat. There are endangered species such as the ferruginous hawk and Townshend ground squirrel. The Horse Heaven Hills is located in the Pacific Flyway and is a natural pathway with an important wildlife migration corridor critical for many protected birds and wildlife. The Horse Heaven Hills Project will have a catastrophic impact on a number of threatened and endangered species.

Tri-Cities is growing rapidly and will experience numerous conflicts with the project. With the State Environmental Protection Act (SEPA) EIS and the Adjudication Hearing taking place, now is the time to take action and help prevent this poorly located industrial activity from harming us. We believe it is possible to achieve proper rational balance between energy development and the protection of the environment, but it takes dedicated effort, strategic planning and carefully coordinated action. We are developing strategic partnerships in the local community to focus and champion conservation efforts, educate the public, and take action to protect the Tri-Cities.

With Your Help, We Can Win the Court Battle Against the Horse Heaven Hills Wind & Solar Project!

On May 2, 2023, at 10 AM:  The court battle for the future of the Horse Heaven Hills will resume.

TC CARES was approved as an Intervenor in the EFSEC adjudication and has organized a legal team with an experienced attorney and technical experts. We are working closely with Benton County, the Yakama Nation, Benton PUD, and other organizations within the Tri-Cities. It is our understanding that the judge is likely to push for an expedited hearing schedule in order for EFSEC to make a recommendation to the Governor by September 30, 2023.
